History

This photo taken in 1924, shows the first drive-in gas station in Harrison, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schwing at the corner of North State Street and Dair Avenue. The station sold Pure Oil products. Not only was the station unique in regard to the drive-in service but also had a snack bar and outside eating area, swings for children, and was a favorite horse shoe pitching spot for the men. Shown in front of the station are the Schwing family, Fred, Mildred, Marcella, James and Mabel.
