Mary Lou Smith, Harrison Township, was honored by the Greater Harrison Chamber of Commerce at its annual membership and awards dinner Thursday, Nov. 16, for her outstanding history of volunteerism and community involvement by earning an award that will be known as the Mary Lou Smith Community Service Award.

This would be Tom Kendrick’s kingdom, if in fact he saw himself as a king. At the least, it could be termed his “magnus opus.”

Rather, he is like any other golfer – dropping a golf ball on the putting green, lining up his shot and stroking it toward a hole about 25 yards away. He does this a few times until he greets his guest.

A Crosby Township teen is being awarded a prestigious award for his quick reaction to help save his tentmate after a tree fell on him in the middle of the night last June.

A Harrison High School senior got to see five weeks of her hard work and dedication come to fruition when an art mural on which she and 13 other area high school students worked was opened to the world on Saturday, Oct. 28.

On the heels of Miamitown Elementary being named a National Blue Ribbon School comes the news that Southwest Local School District is looking at adding modular units at the grade school to deal with the unexpected increase of students.

 For more than 15 years, humble quilters have been creating and donating handmade lap-size comfort quilts from the basement of the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church on New Haven Road.

“Pat Acra and I started the Amazing Grace Quilt group years ago in a little room here at the church,” said Carolyn McClary.
