Harrison High School teacher and baseball coach Shawn Sowders and his wife, Misty, lost nearly everything in a recent house fire. Now, the community is coming together to help the family get back on their feet.

 

Shawn and Misty Sowders, both employees of the Southwest Local School District, lost their house and nearly everything in it to a fire Saturday, June 16. 

But, they haven’t lost the love of family and friends in the Harrison community. 

 Mike Browning (42), Austin Silcox (35) and Nate Weber (61) represented the Wildcats in the annual East/West All Star football game for Southwest Ohio Conference.

 

Their summer vacation lasted less than 24 hours – and they didn’t seem to mind.

When she was younger, Rebecca Smith said she spent many summers at camp at Westwood Town Hall, and later was a camp counselor when she was in college.

Now, Smith is entertaining 150 kids over six weeks this summer as the coordinator for Harrison’s Summer Fun Program.  

Bob Rudisill, 91, attended the June 11, 1938, game at Crosley Field in which Johnny Vandermeer threw a no-hitter against the Boston Bees.

 

He remembers the motion.

Eighty years later, Bob Rudisill is in the living room of his Harrison home, the same one in which he has lived since 1952, talking about the first Major League Baseball game he attended.

Trevor Ward, who teaches business and coordinates the school’s DECA program, was selected by the Yeager Benson American Legion Memorial Post No.
