The family of SPC Zachary S. Salmon, Harrison, recently was presented an Ohio Military Medal of Distinction in a joint convention of families and friends of 28 service members who died serving their country in 2011.
Salmon, who died Jan. 12, 2011, was in the Army.
The Ohio Military Medal of Distinction was created in Senate Bill 248 of the 127th Ohio General Assembly to honor the sacrifice of Ohio’s fallen service members and their loved ones.
The General Assembly convenes annually for this purpose. Harrison State Rep. Lou Terhar, R-Green Township, and other members of the 129th Ohio General Assembly participated.
The presentation included Ohio House Speaker William G. Batchelder, Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus, Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, Brig. Gen. Mark Stephens, and Ohio Department of Veterans Services Director Thomas Moe.
“Zachary Salmon was a true American hero for sacrificing his life in order to protect our freedoms,” said Terhar.
“My thoughts and prayers will always be with his family, and I am honored to be a part of the ceremony today.”
