“In my opinion, Rose is a leader with a heart for the people of this community,” executive director of Love INC Jeanna Winterhalter said about Rose Marie Page. And apparently many agreed, Page recently was named Xi Eta Iota Chapter Beta Sigma Phi Sorority’s 2015 First Lady of the Community. 

Who needs an Easter Bunny when you’ve got a helicopter delivering delicious Easter treats? Miami Whitewater Methodist Church hosted the exciting event on Sunday, March 29.  The helicopter dropped 10,000 plastic eggs into three separate fields designated for different age groups. Kids collected the empty eggs and later received a bag of candy.

Last Saturday’s opening of the track season didn’t start off the way school officials and coach Scott Menze had planned, but the athletes themselves, in this case the Harrison girls’ track team, turned it into a sweet time as the Ladycats defeated seven schools to win the meet. 

Josh Adelsperger, Nathan Schinkal, Marshall Self, Ethan Roush, and Eli Wilson visited the Harrison Press on March 26, 2015 where they helped layout this page. They are Tiger Cub Scouts. Tiger Cub Scouts are the youngest level of scouts, said Marshall.

Lariat artist Doug Smith, otherwise known as Cowboy Doug, seized, or perhaps lassoed the attention of all the cowboys and cowgirls in training at the Harrison Branch Library on Sat. March 21. The children, and parents alike, watched as Cowboy Doug artfully spun his various ropes. Later, they got a turn to try it themselves.

Ghouls and ghosts aren’t the only things resurrecting this coming October, the Minges Pumpkin Fest also will return at a new location, under the ownership and name of the Weber family. 

Now called the Minges and Weber Family Pumpkin Festival, the event will be Oct. 17 and 18 at  Weber’s Farm on Kilby Road. 

 

Off to college

Senior Briana Looney, daughter of Matt and Rachel Harper, has committed and signed to playing volleyball for Mount St. Joseph University in the fall of 2015.

On March 13-14th, Ohio DECA held the 71st Career Development Conference in Columbus, Ohio. Over 2000 students competed in thirty-eight DECA competitive events.
