Funny, but when I read Bill Baird’s column in the Oct. 24 Harrison Press with his comment about allowing the cost of the young lady law student’s birth control be picked up by her “john,” I, too, was offended.

My immediate thought was to write a letter as did Carolyn Streit-Roehrig.

Then I thought of Bill’s comment in the light of such political entertainers as Bill Maher on the far left and Rush Limbaugh on the far right.

Let Bill’s misanthropic comment stand. It’s free speech. However, what Bill must realize, as so many of us fail to do in our ever more divisive political discourse, is that words can be offensive. They can hurt.

I know both Bill and Carolyn. They are both good people. Saying this, I must still commend Carolyn for calling Bill out in his insensitive choice of words.

They may have been entertaining to some of the Tea Party segment but they were also patently offensive to many others. they were certainly offensive to me.
